In this Final Four, it was the Fab Five of Michigan (Juwan Howard, Chris Webber, Ray Jackson, Jimmy King, Jalen Rose) vs a Duke team set on repeating as National Champs (Christian Laettner, Bobby Hurley, Grant Hill) in the title game.

Michigan reached the game by squeaking by the dark horse surprise team - Cincinnati. Duke reached the final after Coach Krzyzewski's team knocked off his former Head Coach, Bobby Knight's Indiana Hoosiers.

Kentucky, led by Jamal Mashburn, is included as the replacement team because of their tournament overtime loss 103-104 to Duke.
